Although orthodontic treatment has become increasingly commonplace, its periodontal side effects are often overlooked. In a free CURADEN webinar on Tuesday, 19 May, Dr Francisco Molina will talk about how to prevent any compromises to the patient’s gingival health during treatment.
The principal focus of orthodontic treatment is the correction of malocclusions. However, at the end of treatment, many patients experience soft- and hard-tissue effects such as gingivitis, gingival recession and bone loss, all of which can create further challenges for the practitioner and put the patient at risk of further periodontal problems. Molina’s webinar will provide important insights into preventing these complications and avoiding patient dissatisfaction.
In addition to running his orthodontic practice, which he has done since 1987, Molina is a clinical director at the faculty of health sciences of the Universidad de Los Hemisferios in Quito in Ecuador and puts his clinical experience to practice as an instructor in CURADEN’s iTOP programme for perfect brushing and individual prophylaxis. He was formerly a vice director at the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador and an academic coordinator at the Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial, both in Quito. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics and World Federation of Orthodontists.
The 1-hour webinar, titled “Orthodontic treatment and periodontal diseases”, will be broadcast live on Tuesday, 19 May, at 6 p.m. CET. Attendance is free of charge after registration. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
