ROCK HILL, S.C., U.S.: Overall the dental community can agree that digital is the future and almost every area of the profession is seeing considerable makeovers in the digital direction. At the 3D Printing Industry Awards recently held in London, U.K., South Carolina-based company 3D Systems received the 2018 Healthcare Application of the Year award for its NextDent 5100, a 3-D printer of orthodontic and prosthodontic appliances.
Presented by global media company 3D Printing Industry, the event was held for the second consecutive year. Categories cover a number of areas, including Outstanding contribution to 3-D printing, Innovation of the year, Aerospace or Automotive application and 3-D scanning application of the year. The awards, presented to individuals and companies alike, are given to those who have received the most votes by the readers of 3D Printing Industry’s media.
“This award recognizes a momentous shift in the market for digital dentistry, as there is a tremendous growth opportunity for dental 3-D printing. According to SmartTech Markets Publishing, by 2027, digital dentistry revenue is expected to reach $9.6 billion,” said Rik Jacobs, Vice President and General Manager of Dental Solutions at 3D Systems. “In February, 3D Systems introduced a complete solution to the market, combining an extensive materials portfolio with leading 3-D printing technology, software and services. We offer the industry’s widest range of regulatory-approved, 3-D printing materials and technologies for dental labs and clinics.”
The NextDent 5100 is powered by 3D Systems’ proprietary Figure 4technology, which facilitates high-speed 3-D printing of dental appliances and sacrificial castings. According to the company, the latest additions to its 3-D digital dentistry portfolio, which includes solutions for dental laboratories and clinics of all sizes, will support patient care, improve productivity, lower costs, and save time for both patient and practitioner.
“We’re bringing a complete digital dentistry solution to the market—combining an unmatched materials portfolio with leading 3-D printing technology, software and services,” said Vyomesh Joshi, President and CEO of 3D Systems. “We offer the industry’s widest range of regulatory-approved 3-D printing materials and technologies that allow dental labs and clinics of every size to drive precision, productivity, and efficiency at a reduced cost for a wide range of dental applications.”
The NextDent 5100 solution is currently in beta testing with select customers and priced below $10,000 (€10,000 in EU countries). General availability is planned for this summer.
