MALMÖ, Sweden: For the fifth year running, the Eklund Foundation for Odontological Research and Education is offering a number of grants to help fund dental research projects. Applications are open from 1 to 31 May, and experimental and clinical studies within all fields of dentistry are welcome, although projects concerning periodontics, implantology and cariology will be prioritised.
The Eklund family, owners of the Swedish oral care company TePe, established their namesake foundation in 2015 to commemorate TePe’s 50th anniversary and to help support oral health research across the globe. This year, a record €200,000 has been allocated for distribution to successful applicants, and the recipients will be announced in autumn. Applicants can choose to apply for funding for a part of their project or for the project in its entirety.
Projects that received funding in 2019 through this initiative were submitted by researchers based in Serbia, Spain and the UK and focused on topics such as the influence of periodontal disease on cerebrovascular disease and the role of periodontitis in the development of lesions on the oral mucosa.
“We are facing challenging times and we are all affected in one way or the other by the current situation,” Helena Ossmer Thedius, marketing and innovation director at TePe, told Dental Tribune International. “Challenging times call for new ways of thinking and creative solutions.”
“We want to encourage researchers to take this opportunity and apply for the Eklund Foundations grant and to continue the important work that they are doing,” Thedius added.
More information about the application process can be found on the foundation’s website.
