NEW YORK, U.S.: According to some oral care professionals, it is essential for clinicians to have a good knowledge base concerning the norms of salivary flow and function. In an upcoming free Dental Tribune Study Club webinar on Thursday, March 7, an expert will be discussing the importance of saliva in everyday activities and the medicinal properties it possesses that are often taken for granted.
Webinar host Ellen Myers will be looking at the need for effective xerostomia treatments, discussing current and emerging treatment protocols in detail. The webinar will also cover salivary components and functions, the effect of hyposalivation on both quality and quantity of saliva, the prevalence and potential causes of xerostomia, as well as the signs and symptoms to help clinicians identify xerostomia in their patients.
Myers graduated from Texas A&M College of Dentistry, Dallas, U.S., with a B.S. in Dental Hygiene and is a registered dental hygienist with over a decade of clinical experience. With a passion for preventive care and both patient and clinician education, she joined the Forward Science team to make a global impact. Currently, the Clinical Hygiene Manager of Forward Science, she provides continuing education on early diagnosis of oral cancer and oral health concerns of cancer treatment side effects.
The 1-hour webinar, titled “The power of saliva: Quantity and quality,” will be broadcast live on Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. ESDT. Attendance is free of charge after easy registration on the website. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
Dental professionals who are interested in attending the course may register online here.
