LOS ANGELES, U.S.: Some celebrities are known for their distinctive physical features. An example is American actress Dakota Johnson, who is not just famous for her role as Anastasia in the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy but also for her median diastema. Now fans have noticed that the gap is gone and are wondering why that is.
In an interview with late-night TV host Jimmy Fallon, the 29-year-old Texas-born actress explained that there is a medical reason for the disappearance of the gap between her teeth. “Everyone is broken-hearted because that the gap in your teeth is not there anymore. People are upset. No one knows what to say. What is going on?” Fallon jokingly said at the beginning of the interview, while displaying headlines and comments about the occurrence to the viewers.
Johnson stated that she was confused about how her teeth could be a “newsworthy event in our world right now.” “I had a permanent retainer since I was like 13, and it was just glued to the back of my teeth,” she explained. “I was having a lot of neck problems recently, so my orthodontist decided it would be a good idea to take it off and see if my jaw sort of expanded. And it helped me and my gap closed by itself.”
“I’m sad about my gap tooth too, so I’d really appreciate some privacy in this time,” Johnson laughed. “I have to deal with a whole new world of problems, getting food stuck in my tooth. Before it would just slide right through.”
Previously, Johnson had immortalized her dental gap in a viral video by Vanity Fair in which she had demonstrated fitting all kinds of items between her teeth, calling it her “only skill”.
