AMSTERDAM, Netherlands: Some things do belong together: just as yin needs yang, implantology needs periodontology. At EuroPerio9, W&H will present its NIWOP campaign—No Implantology without Periodontology, which describes a systematic and evidence-based workflow for sound and healthy tissue around the implant.
Millions of people around the world are affected by periodontitis. This chronic disease significantly increases the incidence of biological complications in implant treatment, posing a risk of implant loss. Peri-implantitis and its preliminary stage of mucositis also occur in a substantial proportion of patients. The cause is frequently found in the pathologically altered biofilm (dysbiosis) with its specific microflora. Untreated periodontitis patients, therefore, have an increased risk of peri-implant inflammation, progressing to implant loss. However, even patients who were treated initially, but not included in a recall programme exhibit an increased risk. Where necessary, periodontological pretreatment and appropriate follow-up care (including supportive periodontal therapy) are important for these patients in order to create the optimum conditions for successful implantation and retention of the implant.
According to W&H, it provides all the products necessary for treatment, as well as a holistic workflow that enables the best possible treatment of patients. The NIWOP workflow, which includes all steps from pretreatment to follow-up care, and the associated W&H products, such as Implantmed, Piezomed, Tigon and the extensive range of tips, help to achieve lasting success of the implant treatment.
Presentations on the complete workflow and the experience of key opinion leaders in this regard are important for clinicians. For EuroPerio9, attendees are invited to join Dr Karl-Ludwig Ackermann on 22 June at 8.30 a.m. in Room G102 for a talk on the NIWOP workflow.
More information on the campaign and the registration form for Dr. Ackermann’s talk can be found here.
