ALGONQUIN, Ill., US: Global dental products supplier Young Innovations has announced its acquisition of pharmaceutical and surgical supplier Medical Purchasing Solutions (MPS). Young Innovations has in recent years taken a number of dental companies under its wing, and its latest acquisition underscores a commitment to serving oral surgeons.
Young Innovations announced the move in a note to the press, describing MPS as a leading supplier of pharmaceuticals and surgical supplies in the fields of oral pain management, oral surgery and dental implants. CEO Dave Sproat commented in a press release that the acquisition would further broaden the company’s offering to dental specialists in the area of pain management.
Sproat said: “Medical Purchasing Solutions takes great pride in delivering an exceptional customer experience to oral surgeons, periodontists and other healthcare providers managing pain, with a robust product line specifically designed to address this specialty segment. We are excited to support the ongoing growth of MPS’ business, employees, customers, vendors and brand as a part of our broader global portfolio.”
Steve Clareen, vice president and general manager at the company, said the acquisition reflected Young Innovations’ ongoing commitment to invest in the oral surgery market. “The leadership team at MPS has built a fantastic business built on strong service and we look forward to driving additional value together and accelerating their growth trajectory,” Clareen added.
The co-CEOs of MPS, John Discerni and Denis McNicholl, will continue to provide leadership after the acquisition, and customers and vendors should not expect any changes to the ordering and service procedures that are currently in place at MPS.
Young Innovations manufactures and distributes supplies and equipment used by general dentists and by those working within a range of specialties, including orthodontics and endodontics. It has established itself as a strategic acquirer of successful healthcare and dental care companies. Recent acquisitions include the 2020 purchase of Preat, which manufactures dental implant components, and the 2017 purchase of key preventive dentistry brands that belonged to Medical Products Laboratories.
Young Innovations is based in Algonquin in the Chicago area and is owned by an affiliated fund that is managed by private equity firm the Jordan Company. MPS is based in Scottsdale in Arizona.
