Hu-Friedy EverEdge® 2.0

Founded in Chicago in 1908, Hu-Friedy has gone on to develop a reputation as an industry-leading manufacturer of dental instruments that also provides outstanding customer service. The company’s emphasis on innovation is evident with the introduction of EverEdge 2.0, scientifically proven to be the sharpest and longest-lasting scaler ever offered.

The original EverEdge scaler was introduced to the market ten years ago and quickly became the top-selling scaler brand in the world—a position it maintains to this day. However, given the constant evolution that characterises dentistry, leveraging decades of experience of instrument manufacture, Hu-Friedy developed EverEdge 2.0 using a proprietary heat treatment process and enhanced finishing techniques. The optimised steel of EverEdge 2.0 has superior edge retention and wear characteristics that will last the entire lifetime of the instrument. Since it is not a superficial coating, these characteristics cannot be removed through use or sharpening. Furthermore, EverEdge 2.0 scalers can be resharpened at any point to extend their lifetime and value. The development of EverEdge 2.0 is a clear demonstration of Hu-Friedy’s commitment to helping dental professionals perform at their best.

Scientifically proven to be the best

To objectively measure the mechanical properties of EverEdge 2.0, Hu-Friedy commissioned the Cutlery and Allied Trades Research Association, a highly regarded blade-testing laboratory, to perform an independent performance evaluation of the scaler against competitors’ instruments, specifically American Eagle Instruments’ XP Technology line, Paradise Dental Technologies, Hartzell Instruments (now part of DenMat) and LM-Dental. The results of this testing showed that EverEdge 2.0 is 72 per cent sharper than the next closest competing instrument at the point of its first use and remains 50 per cent sharper after repeated use, that is 500 strokes. These findings are clear proof of Hu-Friedy’s emphasis on providing exemplary solutions for clinicians.

“With a sharper instrument, the outcomes for removal of any deposits (plaque, calculus, biofilm, etc.) are certainly guaranteed,” says Dr Consolata Pejrone. „The risk of burnishing calculus is minimized due to the better feeling the super sharp blade transmits to the clinician's fingers, allowing him to recognize the texture of the surface he is working on.” Furthermore, EverEdge 2.0’s unmatched sharpness, and resultant increase in efficiency, reduces hand and wrist fatigue in clinicians, and the lower level of pressure needed to remove calculus enhances patient comfort. With better outcomes for dental professionals and patients alike, EverEdge 2.0 represents a giant step forward in scaler technology.
