Xerostomia and Sports – A surprising association

Well-known causes of xerostomia go from the innocuous (not drinking enough) to the commonplace (antihistamines, snoring, anxiety) to the more serious (radiotherapy or chemotherapy). Often forgotten however is sports.

Runners, cyclists, swimmers and many other athletes experience xerostomia associated with extended periods of cardiovascular activity.

But as it increases heart and breathing rate, it causes fluid loss and increases the chance of dry mouth.

GUM Hydral range was especially designed to let you care for xerostomia with gentle solutions that quickly and efficiently relieve dry mouth symptoms, improve your patient’s QoL and protect their oral health thereby helping reduce the risk of more serious oral complications.
